lyrics

Grace of God

As I walk these streets alone, shadowed streets of the big city
I turn my collar high to hide my shame
And my memories of home, remorse and self-pity
My father won’t allow my spoken name

So with pockets full of holes, as are my worn out shoes
I feel the cobbled stones along the lanes
As I fall into a bar, and I hear a poor man singing
I drink my beer and share the poor man’s shame

For love she is my trouble, and it’s love is why I’m here
With heavy heart, I’ve loved and left behind
So I’m searching for my true love, which surely I must find
And so for the grace of God go I

So I finish off my beer, wondering how to buy another
When I spy a sweet Colleen’s lovely smile
Well she is giving me the eye, and as bold I go on over
And the empty seat beside her now is mine

For love she is my trouble and for love is why I’m here
With heavy heart I’ve loved and left behind
I’m searching for my true love, which I know I’ll never find
And so for the grace of God go I

So my new true love and I head off home for warmer times
And a night of love and tenderness I found
It reminds me of the times, when a younger man was I
Where such memories are left beneath the ground

For love she is my trouble and for love is why I’m here
With heavy heart I’ve loved and left behind
I’m searching for my true love, which I know I’ll never find
And so for the grace of God go I
